On August 13, the Ruth Lilly Medical Library hosted a Research Open House in the Medical Sciences Atrium, welcoming 48 students, faculty, and staff researchers from across Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM). Designed to spotlight the library’s research services and foster meaningful connections, the event exceeded expectations and delivered lasting impact.
Attendees discussed topics ranging from data management and scholarly publishing to research impact and artificial intelligence. They also shared feedback on their favorite library resources—like Interlibrary Loan, EndNote, and study rooms.
The open house not only expanded awareness of the library’s offerings but also strengthened relationships across the IUSM research community. Many attendees appreciated the opportunity to meet librarians face-to-face, putting names to faces and building relationships that support their research. For many, the open house served as a gateway to deeper engagement with library services and sparked follow-up conversations that have already leading to new partnerships. The event also fostered spontaneous networking with students, faculty, and staff engaged in research, creating a space for interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration.
The success of this event underscores the value of in-person engagement, which the medical library is committed to leveraging to build meaningful connections and support research excellence.
