The IU School of Medicine and the Ruth Lilly Medical Library (RLML) welcome Michael Ginda to the role of Research Data Librarian. Michael joins RLML from the Cyberinfrastructure for Network Science Center (CNS) at Indiana University, where he spent over a decade as a Senior Research Analyst and, most recently, as Data Engineer & Senior Research Analyst. 

Michael received his Master of Library Science from the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering at Indiana University in 2014, and has spent his career at the intersection of data, visualization, and science communication. At CNS, he consulted with researchers and institutional stakeholders across the social sciences, STEM, and humanities on data-intensive projects — from modeling knowledge graphs for the Human Reference Atlas to designing tools that visualize the impact of automation and AI on the workforce. He brings deep expertise in research data management, scientometrics, and data visualization literacy, along with a decade of experience teaching Information Visualization to students and professionals. 

Michael will support IU School of Medicine faculty, students, and researchers on data management planning and curation across the full research data lifecycle and will work alongside colleagues in University Information Technology Services, the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, and the Regenstrief Institute to design and adapt services that meet researchers' evolving data needs. 

Over the next few months, Michael will be shadowing colleagues in committees, consultations, and classes as he gets acquainted with the School of Medicine's research community and priorities. He is looking forward to building on his experience developing curriculum and workshops to grow instructional programming and documentation that helps IUSM researchers manage, share, and get credit for their data.
