Congratulations to Beth Whipple on her new role as the Associate Director of Informationist Services at the Johns Hopkins Welch Medical Library! Beth will lead a team of 13 informationists and will be responsible for conceiving, planning, and directing information services to faculty, staff, and learners at Johns Hopkins Medicine, Nursing and Public Health.
Beth began her time at the Ruth Lilly Medical Library, Indiana University School of Medicine, as a National Library of Medicine Second Year Fellow and then became a tenure track faculty member in 2007.
During her time here, Beth oversaw the library orientations for our many regional campuses and assisted with LCME accreditation processes. She transitioned into her current role as Assistant Director for Research and Translational Sciences in 2017. In this role, she has led a team of librarians with a focus on supporting the growth of student research, developing and improving research impact services, and facilitating information management initiatives. She oversaw the required IUSM Data Management Plan in 2020 and facilitated the work for 100% compliance in 2022. Her work on information discovery included bibliometric analysis in supporting and analyzing the publication output of the Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI).
Beth will miss the wonderful colleagues here at IU and IUSM she’s made over the past 17 years. She is grateful for the plethora of folks she’s gotten to work with projects such as the pediatric ventilation liberation with Dr. Samer Abu-Sultaneh, an NIH informationist supplement with Dr. Matt Allen, many bibliometrics studies focused on gender with Dr. Melissa Kacena and Dr. Randy Loder, and CTSI health equity projects with Dr. Sylk Sotto and Dr. Brownsyne Tucker Edmonds.
We will miss having Beth here at the Ruth Lilly Medical Library and wish her all the best in her future endeavors!
