Print and Scan
Printing
New for Fall 2025:
- Print allotments discontinued
To streamline printing at IU, UITS discontinued the print allotment system at the beginning the fall 2025 semester. You may see a balance of 350 print credits on most devices (this is required for copying and this balance will not change).
An active digital or physical CrimsonCard is needed to print to IU print queues and to release print jobs to IU printer devices. For information about getting or updating your CrimsonCard, see the CrimsonCard website.
- Universal IU Print available on university-managed machines
The Universal IU Print platform provides secure printing, copying, and scanning services for faculty, staff, and students across all Indiana University campuses. The universal printer option is available from desktop computers in IU libraries and computer labs on campuses (with installation capability provided by HTS/UITS)
- Select "Universal_IU_Print on universal.print.iu.edu" from the printer list when printing a document from a machine on campus (roll-out is not complete, so this option may not be available on all machines yet)
- Go to any printer and swipe your Crimson Card to print
- IU Mobile Print still the easiest way to print!
The simplest way to print to the Universal IU Printers from any IU campus is via IU Mobile Print:
- Login to IU mobile print
- Upload the file you want to print
- Choose your print options: B/W or Color; simplex (single-sided) or duplex (double-sided)
- Go to a Universal IU Printer (view all IU printer locations)
- RLML locations - IB: 100, 207, 303
- MERB locations - HA: 1005B, 2003, 2008, 2027D, 3003L, 3008
- Card-swipe your Crimson Card at the printer to access your print job
- Hit print on the printer
- Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Printing
IUware does offer a Print BYOD package to allow Universal IU Print service from your own device. This package allows personally owned or non-domain joined computers to send documents to Universal IU Print.
Photocopying & Scanning
Black and white photocopies and color copies can be made using your Crimson Card at most IU print stations (at RLML, visit the first and second floor print stations).
Any printer/copier can also be used as a scanner. Scanned documents may be directed to an IU email address, yours or any that you designate. There is no charge for scanning, but you must swipe your Crimson card to scan. If you need assistance with this function of the copier, please contact our Circulation Desk.
