The Ruth Lilly Medical Library’s Content Management and Delivery Department will request articles and books not owned by the Library for the IU School of Medicine faculty, staff and students using ILLiad. The Library covers the costs for this service. If a charge needs to be incurred, Library staff will check with the requester before ordering the document.
If you are not an IU School of Medicine faculty, staff or student, you can order articles and books from the Ruth Lilly Medical Library for a fee. This service is only available to Indiana health professionals and Indiana not-for-profit entities for private study, scholarship, or research. Please complete the application found at: Indiana Health Professional ILLiad Application.
ILLiad may be used to:
Login to ILLiad using your IU username and passphrase.
First time users will be prompted to fill out a brief form. Select the appropriate choice under New Request in the upper left corner, enter in the citation information and submit (to avoid a lot of typing, see Finding Full Text).
“Request Sent” status means that the request has been sent to another library.
It is usually quicker to place a “Request This” item via IUCAT. The advantage of using “Request This” is that the item will receive a longer checkout period than if requesting via Content Management and Delivery. After logging into the IUCAT account using your IU username and passphrase, search for the desired book and click on the "Request This" Link. Select the library for pick-up and click "Request Delivery". Then wait for the book to arrive at the selected library.
Libraries typically do not lend or scan whole journal volumes or issues. If the entire volume or issue is important, please contact cascom@iu.edu.
At this time, Content Management and Delivery is unable to provide eBook access. If a chapter or two is needed, please request the book chapter and the staff will do their best to obtain. The other option is to make a purchase suggestion.
When searching OVID or PubMed, titles that appear between brackets [ ] will be in a language other than English. Unfortunately, the Library does not have the staff available to offer translation services. The IU Indianapolis Department of World Languages & Cultures department may know which graduate students or faculty might offer translation services for a fee. The American Translators Association website has a "find a translator or Interpreter" feature.
